Telltale Signs That You’re Stuck and You Don’t Even Know It

Most of us, I believe, have been stuck at some point in their life. Stuck in a job, stuck in an unhealthy relationship, stuck in a lack of confidence, or stuck in worry about appearance or body confidence for example.

When we are stuck, the feeling becomes a habit, we keep making the same choices, continue in the same mindset, hang around the same people and participate in the same activities. We may long for something different, but don’t know how to break free from the cycle of being stuck, or maybe we can’t identify that we are stuck at all.

Either way, here are some telltale signs that you could be stuck:

  • You feel like you are going through the motions.  You know the feeling: you wake up, get ready, go to work, make dinner, watch tv, repeat.  If you are feeling this way, make sure you take time to connect with something you’re passionate about.  Think of that one special something that fills you with joy and make sure you do that thing once a day!  And if you don’t know what that one thing is, read on.
  • You keep making excuses to avoid change.  When we continue to come up with excuses, we’re not allowing for the possibility of a different outcome.  Bottom line – If you’re looking for an excuse you will find one.
  • You feel you have no idea what to do next, or fear what’s to come.  When we fear the future, we have lost our trust in the bigger picture.  There is a solution when it comes to fear, and the solution is inside of you this very moment.  There is no need to go searching for it.  Schedule time to engage with yourself and visualise a few different scenarios.  What feels right?  What excites you?  Make plans with people who inspire you and discuss your ideas with them.  How do they respond and how does that make you feel?
  • You feel scatterbrained. You are running round in circles in your mind,starting one task before finishing others.  Life resembles that terrible song that you can’t get out of your head and it’s driving you crazy!  To get unstuck from this pattern, it is essential to get our of your usual physical and mental space.  When this feeling comes over you, drive somewhere new, move your body in a different way, listen to different music.  If you are super-organised, get messy!  Do something different.
